Destination Dressing: St. Lucia

An ode to summertime accessorizing and pieces that transport you.

Anyone who knows me, knows I am a summer person. I love the heat and the clothes that come with it. Sending my winter coat off to Kings (they are magicians!) for an end-of-season cleaning, and hiding it in the back of my closet, gives me a serotonin boost akin to daylight savings. Which is to say, it makes me very, very happy.

A recent long weekend in St. Lucia (JetBlue flies direct from NYC!) gave me a little preview of warm-weather dressing, and I'm here for it! I stayed at the Rabot Hotel and would highly recommend it for its lush rainforest views and the oldest cacao farm in St. Lucia.

In the spirit of destination dressing and pieces that transport you, I’m sharing my Saint Lucia packing list. It’s filled with pieces I brought with me, as well as others I’m pining for — all of which would make great additions to your summertime wardrobe.

1. The most gorgeous sun hat by my friend Gigi Burris.

2. These vibrant, one-of-a-kind statement earrings are beyond special: 14k gold, amber, turquoise, and pink opals that remind me of the island sea and sunsets.

3. My friend Kate just introduced me to this swimwear line, and I love the silhouette of this lengthening square neck one-piece. It’s elegant and would look equally great under a crisp button down.

4. The coolest lattice work silk dress that feels perfect for the islands.

5. I’m such a sucker for animal print, and this chic pareo is perfect poolside or out to dinner. I love how elevated the print and colors are.

6. I swear by mineral sunscreen (and a hat at all times!), and I’m excited to try this spray version.

7. I love a crossbody bag for travel; this raffia shopper bag would be great for my passport and phone during airplane travel, but it would also accompany me out to dinner.

8. The Umi Necklace in blue Ashanti glass and aquamarine beads to pair with the perfect powder blue cotton set (keep reading!).

10. I adore the print on this statement skirt by Nigerian designer Abiola Olusola. I’d pair this with a black swimsuit or knit top for an evening out.

11. Bring some sunny island energy home with these resin salad servers.

12. Pleated trousers are a wardrobe staple for me, and this tailored white cotton pair is so chic and versatile for a sunny weekend away.

13. I’m a believer in looking put together for airplane trips, and this organic cotton set (top & bottoms) is my ideal travel outfit that also translates to a great beach cover-up.

14. Earrings crafted with acacia wood, angelite, and mother-of-pearl that would look terrific with the brown swimsuit!
